Support options for ferry services between Bornholm and Poland discussed

Experts present interim results of study at workshop in Ustka on 16-17 Jan 2013

On 16-17 Jan 2013, project partners from Denmark and Poland met in Ustka / PL to discuss intermediate results of the expert study on support options for (re-)establishing ferry services between Bornholm and Poland. The study was commissioned jointly by the Polish Municipalities Ustka and Darłowo as well as Nexø Seaport to identify ways to re-launch the currently suspended passenger connections from Nexø to Darłowo and Ustka in 2013. It is elaborated by the Polish – Danish consortium of transport consultants under lead of Inzights A/S from Denmark.

In their presentation, Lars Kjær (Inzights A/S) and Ilona Urbanyi (lecturer at Gdynia Maritime University) highlighted different scenarios and possible measures for supporting the passenger links between Bornholm and Poland. Experts and partners came to the common conclusion that improvement of the ferry connections will be only realistic if supported by the public side in some way: “Creating the conditions for operators to improve the current level of services calls for joining forces.”- stressed Lars Kjaer from the Danish company Inzights A/S.

The experts will consider the feedback received during the stakeholder workshop in their final recommendations for support measures that may be taken by INTERFACE PLUS partners. The final report will be elaborated until March 2013.
