More comfort for passengers travelling between Poland and Bornholm

Renovated ferry terminal in Nexø opened on 29 April 2013

With the start of the new season for ferry services between North Poland and Bornholm, the renovated terminal in Nexø was inaugurated on 29 April 2013. The reconstruction took place over the winter and is financed within the INTERFACE PLUS project. It involved improvements of the boarding / customs area, which was extended and redesigned in order to provide shelter for more people as well as to enable more comfortable routines and waiting times.

The result is a whole success: The once dark building with only limited capacities for passengers has become multifunctional and spacious facility, now. Local tourism suppliers or traders can place their advertisements here. Moreover the port aims to offer rooms and spaces to carry out events, e.g. small concerts. According to Carsten Andersen, Chief Executive of Nexø Seaport A/S, the whole harbor area benefits from the reconstruction of the terminal. “The port area is more attractive to residents and visitors, now”, he said.

The first trip in the season from Kołobrzeg to Nexø was very popular. 165 of available 288 places on board the passenger ferry M/S “Jantar” of Kołobrzeska Żegluga Pasażerska (KZP) were booked by travellers, who used the long weekend around 1 May to visit the Danish island. Besides Kołobrzeg, KZP will also operate from Ustka and Darłowo to Nexø in the new season.
