Feasibility Study for expansion of the public transport connection between Karlskrona inner city & Karlskrona port published…

Express bus - only economically viable option

19.01.2012

The city of Karlskrona has elaborated a feasibility study to investigate options for improved / expanded public transport service for foot passengers between Karlskrona city centre and Verkö (Karlskrona Port). The final version of the study is now published. Main conclusions are:

None of the options for expanded public transportation between Karlskrona and Verkö appears as economically viable. The result however suggests that the only reasonable option is an express bus route with stops at the major target points, Bergåsa and in the future Gullberna Travel Center. The option gives the travel time gains or other benefits that are proportionate to the traffic costs.

Direct bus (bus 2 UA) and UA boat do give short travel times between the end points to no or low investment costs. The option gives the travel time gains or other benefits that are proportionate to the traffic costs. The pure tourist travel with Trossö (Karlskrona City Center) as goal has not been considered separately. The assessment says that these have an effect on travel in peak season (May to September) which would justify additional direct bus or boat traffic Verkö (Baltic Port) - Trossö (Karlskrona City Center) during this period. Track options require large investments and have high operating costs, which are not justified of travel time gains
