Special summer Sunday experience at Gedser Harbour when Rostock Philharmonic Orchestra was playing 1. August 2010 at the Gedser Old Train Station

More than one year of preparation culminated in an extraordinary concert for nearly 700 guests. “Is this not just fantastic?” asked Mayor John Brædder in his welcoming speech when he opened the concert. “Through this concert we will like to build a symbolic bridge and continue the good cooperation between Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Guldborgsund Municipality”. John Brædder also referred to the improved public transport Gedser – Nykøbing that would make it much easier travelling between Nykøbing and Rostock. Rostock Mayor Roland Methling also mentioned the good neighbourhood across the Baltic Sea and predicted Gedser as a great tourism centre.

The orchestra played a joyful selection of music by Johann Strauss, Hans Christian Lumbye and Carl Nielsen. The soprano Lisa Mostin and solo flute player Svend Melbye from the Storstrøm Chamber Ensemble gave a very personal touch to the Sunday afternoon.

The concert was arranged within the framework of Interface project and made possible through a close cooperation between Rostock City, North Deutsche Symphony Orchestra Rostock, Storstrøm Chamber Ensemble, Guldborgsund Municipality, Region Zealand and Scandlines who now owns the Gedser Old Train Station. Region Zealand and Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl- Nielsens Fund also co-funded the concert.
